There are many different styles of kickboxing with diverse origins which incorporate blended techniques from karate, savate and taekwondo. However, the Thai style of kickboxing is accepted to be the most effective form of kickboxing and is used extensively in Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) promotions such as the UFC.
The range of movements employed in Muay Thai generate power making it excellent for both fitness and self defence. Power is generated through correct placement of the feet and in rotating the hip into position which leverages body weight leading to a more powerful strike. This is totally unique when compared with other kickboxing styles. The Thai style also includes elbow and knee strikes making it a more complete system for self defence and fitness. The boxing elements of kickboxing are similar to that of western boxing involving the use of straight shots such as jabs and crosses and more advanced techniques such as hooks, uppercuts and shots to the body. At FSC in exeter, we will teach you all of this and more to help you reach your goals.
Our Exeter based, specially designed and state of the art kickboxing facilities are fully equipped specifically to support kickboxing training. We have a full range of kick bags, pads and specialist equipment which can only be found in Muay Thai kickboxing gyms. Our classes are focussed on a mix of fitness and technique and you will learn from some of Europe's most decorated and qualified coaches including the only native Thai kickboxer in the South West. Classes generally consist of a kickboxing focussed warm up followed by pad or bag work. Our beginners enjoy support from our coaches every step of the way to assist in building strong technique. The technique phases of the class will be finished off with a warm down, stretching or resistance exercises. The fitness elements of kickboxing can be challenging although we cater to all abilities and focus on the individual.
